About The Rites of Passage

So often, parents struggle with how to find the right words to discuss puberty, reproduction, and sex with their children. This is commonly due to:

  • An overall discomfort with the subject matter
  • Difficulty understanding when is the right time
  • Many parents never had these talks with their own parents and as a result, have difficulty finding the right words when it comes time to talk.

Welcome to The Rites of Passage! We believe that educating parents and children together is a great way to begin these conversations. Long past the classroom setting, our classes give you the ability to take the information that you have learned and to continue talking with your children while sharing the beliefs and values that are vital to your family.  Our programs have been designed to encourage discussion and promote comfort in a safe and healthy environment. Learning about our bodies and the many amazing things that they are capable of can be a LOT of fun!

We are excited to help you to teach your children about the life changes they experience as they transition through puberty and beyond. It is our goal to provide support and encouragement and we thank you greatly for your business and interest.

Jodi Kaye, RNC, BSN

Founder / Educator

Hi there! I'm Jodi Kaye and I am the creator and founder of The Rites of Passage. I am an Arizona native and I am the mother of three amazing daughters. I have also been a Registered Nurse for almost 20 years.

My background. . .

My nursing career has primarily focused on women and children’s health issues. I spent 15 years in the specialty of Labor and Delivery and Bereavement Counseling. I hold a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree and I have obtained National Certification in Obstetric Nursing. Motherhood and my career have led to a love and appreciation for teaching, parenting, and addressing children’s issues.

How it all began. . .

I created The Rites of Passage as a result of my love for teaching in nursing and also because I'm a mom to three girls. I knew I needed to find a healthy and fun way to discuss these stages with my girls so they could grow up to be happy and confident in all aspects of their lives. Once I figured out how to openly talk to my girls about puberty and sexuality, I realized that I could also help others contribute to the growth and education of their children, and have been doing so since early 2013. I have found that the best way to accomplish this is by developing and delivering high quality educational workshops meant to encourage and strengthen the parent-child relationship and communication methods.

Featured in. . .

I have been a resident contributor for North Scottsdale Pulse magazine. I have also been featured in Raising Arizona Kids Magazine as well as on Arizona Midday Channel 3 and Sonoran Living Live ABC15. In 2016, I was honored to be asked  to speak at The Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH) conference in Austin, TX. I have enjoyed sharing speaking engagements at large corporations and in private homes throughout my teaching career.

Lindsay Maslick

Educator

Lindsay Maslick was born in Santa Rosa, California and is the mother of twin daughters. She graduated from ASU with a degree in business and communications and later got her Master's in Education.

Lindsay has eight years of teaching experience. She has taught 6th grade, 2nd grade and 3rd grade. She enjoys watching her students gain a love of learning and inspiring them!

Joining The Rites of Passage team has been a great opportunity for Lindsay because she feels that the classes are an amazing learning experience for both mother/daughter and father/son. The classes allow the topic of puberty to be discussed openly and encourage communication between parent and child. She thinks it's very rewarding to see the level of comfort these classes bring to a topic that at times can be difficult.
